I started racing Mt bikes about 10 years ago, trying to get the competitive fix I had during my competitive swimming days at the University of Kentucky (yes the CATS will be back!) After a dismal effort at an AMBC expert race in Snowshoe, WV where I finished 38 of 40(2 guys DNS) in my class and then slept in the car for 3-4 hours, I decided to try a road race. I won my first citizen race and the rest is history. At almost 40, I have finally reached the pinnacle of amateur cycling with my recent upgrade to a category 1, wait there is not place to go but down...hmmm! Racing with all the guys at CTM is awesome and most important we WIN...no actually the most important thing is that we have a good time. I'm enjoying the feeling of being in great shape and still feeling like I am in my late 20s, ok minus the back problems (three days for recovery) and all the teenagers that continue to kick my butt, but it is a fantastic sport. Happy Riding! |
